UFCW Local 1149 ratifies new contract with Tyson Foods in Perry, Iowa

 

Nearly a thousand members of UFCW Local 1149 and workers at the Tyson Foods plant in Perry, Iowa have ratified a new contract with the company. 

The new contract:

 

--Establishes a $1.50 raise over 54 months.  $.50 at ratification, $.15 in March ’08, $.25 in March ’09, $.25 in March ’10, $.25 in March ’11, and $.10 in March ’12 (Production, Building Maintenance Janitors and Maintenance Levels L5 – L8).

 

-- Establishes a "Maintenance Quick Start" program so that maintenance workers can move more quickly to higher levels of pay.

 

--Maintains affordable, quality health care by decreasing insurance costs with small changes in plan design. Perry workers will now have the same plan as Tyson workers in Joslin and Waterloo. 

 

--Improvements in health, safety, and other working conditions.
