Health & Safety Info

A healthy and safe work environment is a right, not a privilege. Many food workers operate and work around dangerous equipment and in conditions that can be hazardous to their safety and well-being. The UFCW is a powerful voice for working men and women, leading the effort to protect and improve the livelihood of all workers. In meatpacking and poultry plants across the country, the UFCW has established worker-management Health and Safety and Ergonomics committees to address the general hazards in the workplace for food workers so that these workplace issues can be addressed and corrected quickly.

All workers need to be aware of issues that affect their health and safety at work. The attached links provide information about injury prevention and protection, current legislation, and explanations on safety issues of concern so that food workers can play their part in improving health and safety in the workplace.
